Atkinson Wins Oregon Farm Bureau Endorsement

Central Point, OR April 5, 2006 – Oregon State Senator and candidate for Governor Jason Atkinson today welcomed the endorsement of his candidacy by the Oregon Farm Bureau Federation.  The Farm Bureau is the state's largest general agriculture organization.  Its 22 member Board of Directors met yesterday in the culmination of a 3-month process and voted overwhelmingly to support Atkinson in the upcoming gubernatorial primary.

When asked what the deciding factor was in endorsing Atkinson, OFB President Barry Bushue said, “Jason is a proven entity that has been a passionate advocate of the natural resources industry. He is running a grassroots campaign which clearly mirrors our organization.”

Dave Dillon, Executive Vice President of OFB said his organization has not done a lot of primary endorsements in the past.  “The OFB has decided to endorse Atkinson because they value his long and fantastic track record of supporting family farms in Oregon,” Dillon noted.

“It’s tremendously gratifying to have the support of the Oregon Farm Bureau in my race for Governor,” Atkinson said.  “Our campaign is about energizing people across our state to get involved in making Oregon better.  The grassroots power of the Farm Bureau, which reaches into every corner of Oregon, will be a strong addition to the tool kit we are building that will help us fix what’s wrong with our state.”

As Senator, Atkinson has earned a 100 percent voting record with the Oregon Farm Bureau and was honored with their 'Defender of the Family Farm' award. He also earned a 100 percent rating from Family Farm PAC.

The Oregon Farm Bureau is a voluntary, grassroots, nonprofit organization representing the interests of the state's farmers and ranchers in the public and policymaking arenas. The OFB is organized in all 36 Oregon counties and has almost 52,000 members, the third largest Farm Bureau in the U.S. Western region.
