Crop Disaster Program deadline is Feb. 27

   Siskiyou County U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency has announced sign up deadlines for both the 2005-07 Crop Disaster Program and the Direct and Counter Cyclical Payment programs.
   Sign up for the disaster program will end Feb. 27. This date applies to receipt of a signed and completed FSA-840, according to a news release. All supporting documents and forms must be turned into the county FSA office. CDP quality and quantity claims are still being accepted for review until this deadline. Each county FSA office has signup information and required for ms. Late applications, filed after the Feb. 27 deadline, will not be approved.
   Decisions will be made by March 27. The new farm bill has new and continued disaster assistance programs for crop and livestock producers for 2008-11.
   Signup for the payment programs r u ns through June 1. Farmers with crop-acreage bases who are interested in participating in the program should contact their county FSA office. T here are eligibility changes including termination of base acres on government-owned lease land in the Klamath and Tulelake basins.
   Crop planting flexibilities remain unchanged. Farmers currently operating a direct cyclical payment farm should contact their local FSA office to make an appointment.
