Background

In December 2010, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced Secretarial Order 3310 directing the Bureau of Land Management to designate areas with wilderness characteristics as “wild lands.”  In a move by the Obama Administration to circumvent Congress’s sole authority to allocate Wilderness areas, this order could place a vast amount of public land off-limits to energy production, recreational use and other job-creating activities.  H.R. 1473, the 2011 Continuing Resolution that funds the federal government through FY2011, included provisions to prevent the Interior Department from using funds to implement the Wild Lands order.

Visit the Committee Hearings webpage for testimony and additional information, once it is made available.  The hearing is open to the public and a live stream will be broadcast at http://naturalresources.house.gov/live.
