  Senate OKs field burning bill

Herald and News June 25, 2009

SALEM (AP) — A bill to phase out most field burning by Willamette Valley grass seed farmers has been approved by the Oregon Senate.

The measure passed 16-14 Thursday after backers said the smoke causes health problems, particularly for people with asthma.

The measure would phase out field burning in Lane, Benton and most of Linn counties by 2010 and means farmers in those areas could not burn fields next summer.
