KID chairman Brent Cheyne recalled; Smith survives recall by one vote; one ballot contested

Herald and News 10/12/16

Brent Cheyne, one of two Klamath Irrigation District board members facing a recall election, was recalled by patrons 89 to 77 in unofficial results Wednesday night counted at the KID office.

Cheyne is the chairman of the irrigation district board.

Meanwhile, board member Ken Smith apparently survived a recall attempt by one vote. The vote was 52 to 51 opposing Smith's recall.

However, one absentee ballot was contested by KID officer manager Linda Seater because the ballot was not signed. That could lead to a tie if that ballot is a "yes" vote. The voter has 14 days to respond to the office and sign the ballot. In seven days, the voter's name becomes public.

A third member — Grant Knoll — is up for a recall vote on Nov. 7.
