“Sulu” set his phaser to “American Spring” and blasted his 2.19 million Twitter followers on Thursday.

Prominent gay-rights activist and pop-culture celebrity George Takei has joined a handful of his Hollywood peers in calling for martial law or an uprising against President Trump. The famous “Star Trek” actor said the commander in chief “must go” in a manner reminiscent of rebellions in Egypt, Libya and other countries across the Middle East and North Africa.

“With attacks on immigrants, women and LGBTs, Trump has shown he must go. An American Spring is coming. Can we count on you to stand with us?” the actor tweeted Thursday.

The actor’s tweets echo recent rhetoric used by Hollywood director Joss Whedon, comedian Sarah Silverman, Rosie O’Donnell, and others.

“Wake up & join the resistance. Once the military is w [sic] us fascists get overthrown Mad king & his handlers go bye bye,” Ms. Silverman tweeted Feb. 1 before apologizing two days later.

“I fully support imposing martial law — delaying the inauguration — until Trump is ‘cleared’ of all charges,” Ms. O’Donnell tweeted to 900,000 followers on Jan. 11.

“This is simple: Trump cannot CANNOT be allowed a term in office. It’s not about 2018. It’s about RIGHT NOW,” Mr. Whedon tweeted Nov. 14.

Mr. Takei’s violent rhetoric was met with a deluge of negative feedback.

“Which one of us should tell him the Arab Spring left mostly ruins and dictatorships in its wake?” asked one user on Friday.

“The last time public rebellions were tagged with ‘spring’ it didn’t really end well for the pubic. Careful what you wish for,” added another.

The actor did not respond to criticism on the social media platform as of Friday.
