Mallams has integrity, courage, commitment

Herald and News letter to editor by Gus deVries, Beatty May 3, 2016

A vote for Commissioner Tom Mallams is a vote for integrity, courage, commitment and accountability. He has proven his ability to manage a $185 million budget while providing all the necessary services for Klamath County.

Commissioner Mallams is doing exactly what he said he would do when he was elected — oppose Klamath dam removal, continue to work for a water solution that is fair to all and support agriculture and business in Klamath County.

Commissioner Mallams has proven he has the qualifications and experience to represent Klamath County.

Candidate Boyd is a very nice gentleman but his leadership as chairman of the Klamath Union High School remodel project left it with a 40 percent overrun. Sometimes budgets get under-estimated because they’re too hard to sell to the public. It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

It is very apparent where candidate Boyd’s supporters come from. A quick look at the Secretary of State Orestar report, (Oregon’s election reporting system) indicates $38,250 in contributions. Looking through the names roughly $29,200 or 76 percent of his donors (25) are Klamath Basin Restoration Agreement and dam removal advocates. It’s easy to see where his allegiance will be.

Mr. Boyd also says he’s been a leader in the water disputes. Is that why his supporters opposed Whitsett’s bill that required scientific empirical evidence that deep wells affect surface water?

Mr. Boyd’s venue is economic growth and employment but when he sold his company numerous employees were immediately laid off. How’d that help the employment rate?

You can be the greatest cheerleader but until we get enough conservative state legislators like Dennis Linthicum to change restrictions nothings going to change locally.

Tom Mallam has always supported all agriculture interest including those who oppose him. He’s qualified, motivated and well deserving of the working mans vote.

Gus deVries, Beatty
